Samesor – a trusted production solution provider

22.4.2025

As a manufacturer of roller forming machinery and production lines, Samesor Oy is well known for its boldness, broadmindedness and courageous attitude. Now in its 60s, the company started exporting back in the 1970s.

A key player in Samesor’s history was Erkki Säynevirta, who founded Savo Metallisorvaamo with a friend in 1964. The company would later become wholly owned by him, with its name changed to Samesor.

“At first, Samesor Oy was a subcontractor workshop. However, Erkki felt that subcontracting alone wasn’t enough, and that the company should also have its own products,” says Jarmo Airaksinen, chair of the board and CEO of Samesor.

Säynevirta decided to specialise in roller forming machinery used to produce various products from thin sheet metal, especially for construction purposes. Nowadays, service operations, i.e. servicing, spare parts and maintenance services, as well as modifications to machinery, are also a key element of what the company does.

Samesor’s production lines are perceived by customers as “the crème de la crème of the industry”. This reputation is based on the reliable manufacturing of high-quality production lines.

“We are profiled as producing some of the more challenging units. People come to us when they need to shape a thin piece of sheet metal into a shape that no one else has managed,” says Samesor’s Sales Operation Manager Pasi Ikonen.

Changes spark innovation

Samesor was a family company until 1995, after which ownership moved to capital investors and company employees. In 2023, one of Samesor’s largest customers, the Polish firm Budmat Bogdan Więcek, bought the company’s entire share capital. The company has, however, remained based in Kuopio.

Over the years, Samesor has exported machinery to 62 countries around the world. Its primary market is Europe, which nowadays is complemented by a strong foothold in America and the Middle East. Russia was a strong market before operations there were deliberately wound down as a result of the war of aggression Russia launched.

“Negative events in major markets have been one of our greatest challenges throughout our history. However, we managed to quickly replace Russia, for example, with markets in Europe and Central America,” says Airaksinen.

Regardless of what has swayed the markets, the changes have also brought about many good results. According to Ikonen, market crashes trigger innovation. They are moments when you have to develop things to make them better and more efficient. In difficult situations, Samesor has recalled Erkki Säynevirta’s saying: “We’ve got this too!”

Faith in what you do and ability to listen to the client

Airaksinen advises companies in their early stages that their product or service must be good and convincing. Good enough to convince the person selling it too. After all, developing a business if you do not believe in what you are doing or your product is tricky, to say the least. The ability to listen to the client and keep to your word are also pivotal.

“Once you have enthusiasm, confidence and good quality, in order, it’s worthwhile doing some rough calculations in Excel and shaping the product or service into a business. You need to make sure you have enough of a margin between production costs and sales prices, otherwise a good idea will remain just that – an idea”, says Airaksinen.

According to Jarmo Airaksinen, chair of the board and CEO, Kuopio is a good place for Samesor, and there is no reason to move operations, even though the company is currently Polish-owned and its main markets are abroad.

“Budmat Bogdan Więcek bought the company partly because of the Finnish identity, which is valued across the globe,” says Airaksinen.
